The practice will utilize evidence-based psychotherapy and consultation services and focus primary on assisting women improve their mental and physical health and overall well-being. Located at 1010 Ednan Center, Saphhire Mountain Psychotherapy is expected to open in mid-October. Sam Orr, Executive Vice President of MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services represented the tenant and in this transaction.
Research from Statista Insights & Facts suggests that approximately 27percent of U.S. women received mental health treatment or counseling at some point in 2022 and, according to Dr. Erica Peters Finan, women are more likely than men to seek mental assistance. Sapphire Mountain Psychotherapy will specialize in treating depression, anxiety, chronic pain, career and personal burnout and illnesses related to pregnancy, menstruation, menopause, and chronic ailments. Peters Finan expects the typical patient to be a woman over 18 years of age but men will be accepted into the practice as well.
“Women are asked to fill many roles in their lives including spouse, mother, employee, friend, volunteer, and caregiver and many feel stretched too thin and unable to cope with all the responsibilities on their plates,” Peters Finan explained. “Friends, family members and colleagues can only help so much, which is why so many seek professional guidance. My approach to therapy is evidence-based and tailored to each client’s individual needs,” she added. “Therapeutic approaches commonly used in the practice are cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based interventions.”
Dr. Peters Finan is pivoting from her previous role as Senior Director, Clinical Research at Canopy Growth Corporation where she oversaw clinical trials related to the use of cannabis to improve personal health and wellness. She earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology from Yale School of Medicine.
“After working exclusively as a scientist for many years, I missed the personal interaction with patients and the direct impact I could make on their personal lives,” Peters Finan explained. “This was the perfect time to make this change as I believe we are filling a needed gap in the greater Charlottesville with our practice focus and specialty area.”
Sapphire Mountain Psychotherapy, which will also offer telehealth services, will target patients throughout a 15-mile radius of the Charlottesville area including the Shenandoah Valley region.
“Ednam Professional Center is the ideal location for Sapphire Mountain Psychotherapy given its position near UVA Health and its referring physicians, the availability of free parking and the project’s central location providing quick access to a large population,” stated MacKenzie’s Sam Orr. “It is extremely important for healthcare and medical providers to remove all possible patient barriers as it relates to a site, and a convenient location and free parking are among the important traits.”
