Brian Thomas Joins MacKenzie’s Charlottesville, Virginia Regional Office as Real Estate Advisor

Brian Thomas, formerly Head Coach for The George Washington University’s Division I men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, has joined MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services as Real Estate Advisor. Thomas will work in MacKenzie’s new Charlottesville, Virginia regional office under the direction of Sam Orr, the Executive Vice President who spearheaded the opening of the office this summer.

In his new capacity, Thomas will represent the interests of tenants, developers, landlords, and institutional owners in the sale and leasing of all asset classes including commercial office, warehouse/industrial and retail with a focus on the central Virginia region. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut.

“The most important attributes of a successful commercial real estate broker are leadership and communication skills, combined with unbridled enthusiasm and passion, and Brian has continually demonstrated these attributes during his collegiate coaching career,” explained Orr. “Brian was a highly successful Division I swimming coach for many years, and many of the traits he depended on are transferable to sales and marketing. He is extremely personable and hardworking, with high integrity and an understanding of the importance of excellent service.

“I am extremely confident that he will have a long and successful commercial brokerage career because he places a high priority on work ethic and accountability. He will immerse himself in his new career and outwork the competition,” Orr added.

Orr adds that this hire is the first of many as MacKenzie looks to significantly expand its presence in the Central Virginia commercial real estate marketplace. “We are aggressively searching for other highly-professional, personable, and hard-working individuals looking to embrace our corporate culture and share in the rewards of a commercial real estate career.

Upon opening the new office, Orr referred to Charlottesville as the “tip of the spear” in MacKenzie’s stated goal to quickly expand into the Shenendoah Valley, Richmond and Norfolk,. “MacKenzie has a long legacy of excellence, brand name recognition, access to a diverse platform of resources, and most importantly, the chance to work with their outstanding people. Charlottesville is a compact, yet fast-growing market and the region is benefitted by a diverse economy and supported by a highly-skilled and educated workforce that specifically attracts start-ups and major business users.”

MacKenzie intends to employ an aggressive growth strategy, with a goal of adding up to four full-time commercial real estate brokerage professionals and two property management specialists before year-end. The company also hopes to attract two construction management personnel by early 2025.
