MacKenzie Contracting Receives Recognition for Alpha Omicron Pi Project
The MacKenzie Companies is proud to announce that MacKenzie Contracting Company, LLC has been recognized by the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) organization for their work on the historic Alpha Omicron Pi house in College Park, Maryland. The fully functional and occupied project received an ABC award of Excellence and a Safety Training Evaluation Process (S.T.E.P) Platinum safety award.
“This project was a great opportunity to show off the existing craftsmanship with the construction of new coffered ceilings, stair rails and front entrance but to mention a few. The 1920’s house was required to meet current life safety and ADA codes while maintaining its original look mandated not only by its members, but the local Historical Society,” said Vice President of Business Development Joe Versey.
Currently home to the University of Maryland’s Alpha Omicron Pi Chapter, the project encompassed both interior and exterior renovations of the 16,000 square foot sorority house. The project required challenging mechanical and safety upgrades that included an overhaul of the kitchen exhaust system and the addition of sprinkler and fire rated doors and frames. Esthetic changes to the historic property comprised of creating an opening in a load bearing wall with the installation of a steel beam, new ceilings and hand rails, among other finishes were carried out along with the relocation of a wood panel “member signature wall”.
